Abstract

The article presents a commented translation from Middle Greek into Russian of the Epistle of Patriarch St. Athanasius I of Constantinople and the Synod of the Church of Constantinople to Emperor Andronicus II Palaeologus on the Riot of Joannes Drimys in 1305. This is one of the most important works of St. Athanasius, as it is, along with the History of Pachymeres, the only source on this event. The preface and commentaries raise questions about the origin of Drimys, his connection with the Arsenite schismatics and the identification of his anonymous accomplice from Myra of Lycia.
